As a third grade teacher, I have always worked hard to get my students to write a reading response and get them ready for their first ELA state test.  I felt frustrated though.  It seemed like the time my students and I were putting in, just wasn’t paying off.  

My third graders struggled to answer a response question and they just couldn’t remember to include enough evidence to support their answers.  Year after year, I kept thinking there has to be an easier way.   Then, finally I implemented a strategy to help my students master the reading response!
